Question 1

Is MCSR™ a replacement for board certification?

Accepted Answer

No. MCSR™ is not a certification, a license, or a test. It does not replace ABCP, NBRC, or any other credentialing body. It documents and verifies the clinical hours those credentials were never built to capture.

Question 2

What types of clinical hours qualify for MCSR™ verification?

Accepted Answer

Hours spent caring for patients on mechanical circulatory support devices including cardiopulmonary bypass (VCH™), extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VEH™), normothermic regional perfusion (VNH™), and ventricular assist devices including LVAD, RVAD, Impella, and Tandem Heart (VVH™).

Question 3

Can I backfill clinical hours I already have?

Accepted Answer

Yes. MCSR™ is backfill eligible. You can document and seek verification for clinical experience you have already accumulated, going back to your first case.

Question 4

What happens to my MCSR™ record if I change employers?

Accepted Answer

Your MCSR™ record belongs to you — not your employer, not a hospital system, not a certifying board. It is permanent and portable, and never revoked by institutional changes.

Question 5

How does the MCSR™ verification process work?

Accepted Answer

MCSR™ verifies compliance with MCSR™ standards, not direct observation of every clinical minute. Your institution or program confirms your documented experience when audited.

Question 6

Who is the MCSR™ credential for?

Accepted Answer

Any clinician who provides direct care to MCS patients: perfusionists, ICU nurses, NPs, PAs, respiratory therapists, intensivists, cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, and allied health professionals.
